Swedish poker pro wins €600,000 poker prize

Christer Johansson outlasted a field of 700 players to win the 2009 paddypowerpoker.com Irish Open.

The 38-year-old Swedish poker player after a grueling 37 hours of poker it was Christer Johansson defeated EPT Live presenter Kara Scott in the climactic heads-up battle in Dublin, with final day chip leader Andrew Pantling bowing out in third place.

Johansson, who won a World Poker Tour title in 2003, pocketed €600,000 (£535,619) for his victory, while Scott finished with €312,600 and Pantling went home with €205,200.

Dating back to 1980, the Irish Open is the biggest event on the professional poker calendar in Ireland. Past winners include Joe Beevers, Marty Smyth and Neil Channing.
